The light that we try to avoid the most, the light that gets the worst rap, but the light that we desperately need as wedding photographers. It’s time to learn how to master the light that changed my entire career- Indoor + Artificial light. Specifically, off camera flash. Ps, you can just join our free crash course HERE if you’re ready to dive right in.
But let me start off by asking..
Are you sick of shooting at 10,000 ISO?
Over purchasing dozens of lighting set ups and hoping one will work?
Constantly panicking when there aren’t enough windows at the venue?
Done praying that your couples have enough string lights?
Or that the videographer has a strong video light?
Mastering Artificial Light is what is keeping you from building a dream town portfolio that earns you the big bucks. Let’s change the way you think of lighting forever!
Falling in love with Artificial Light opens you up to sooo many possibilities of shooting- on the wedding day, in indoor studios, during post-sunset first dances, all of it. And the best part? The set up + gear can be transferrable between both sessions and weddings. During this shoot here, I used the exact same gear and set up I use during wedding events.

But let’s break down what you actually need to know in order to master Artificial Light and Off Camera Flash..
1. How does Artificial Light even work? It’s an entirely new game in regards to both execution and settings. So you first need to master how each setting (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) interact with the flash strength and distance.
2. What gear do you need?! This is a biggie, and one that cost me thousands of dollars over the years. There are a million different opinions on what kind of gear you need, so you’ll want to find what works best with what you’re hoping to achieve.
On wedding days, I like staying as inconspicuous as possible so I don’t influence the mood or vibe of the day. This means no constant lights if I can avoid them! I love having speed lights for my Off Camera Flash.
3. How do you set it up? Artificial Light and Off Camera Flash mean that you’re working with entirely new gear, so you’ll want to get used to how they logistically operate, how to get them set up on the transmitters, and how to control the look you’re wanting to achieve.
4. What does it look like in action? Helloooo now that you understand the basics and want to use Off Camera Flash, you’re going to want to learn what set ups work best for you. You have an endless amount of options, and you can use them in strategic ways to develop specific looks.
Imagine walking into a windowless church and knowing EXACTLY how to light the ceremony to perfection.
Imagine looking at the first dance scheduled 3 hours after sunset, outdoors, and already having your set up prepped.
Imagine creating consistent and captivating images regardless of how dark and tungsten your venue is.
Imagine knowing exactly what, where, and how you need to light your wedding day from start to finish, so you can focus on your couple instead of stressing about lighting.
Sound amazing? Honestly, it kind of is. If you’re ready to revolutionize your lighting skills + portfolio..
