Adriana and Greg’s elopement at Dead Horse Point will forever hold a place in my heart.
It was one of those wedding days that reminded me, at every turn, why I chose this career. It reminded me how insanely freaking lucky I am to witness such incredible moments for my couples, and to preserve them for the rest of their lives. This job is too good.
Adriana and Greg decided to skip over a wedding on the east coast, and fly out to Utah to tie the knot at the stunning Dead Horse Point.
There’s something magic about the magic desert, and this Dead Horse Point elopement was graced with an extra touch of rain leaving us with the greenest of greens, and most vibrant reds. The 2nd wettest spring Utah has ever had left the most incredible greenery throughout the park- something I’ve never witnessed in that extreme before.
Adriana and Greg were the calmest, most centered couple I’ve witnessed as the wind, rain, and lightning surrounded them throughout the day. The most important thing was getting married, and their love was palpable throughout each turn the weather threw at us.
I asked Adriana and Greg to share some thoughts on their Elopement at Dead Horse Point- including what made them decide to elope, what advice they’d give planning couples, and much more. Why we decided to elope..
Simply put, because it was right for us. Greg and I struggled to understand how a day meant to celebrate the love between two people often seemed to demand a disproportionate amount of time, money, and stress. We knew if we went that route it would ultimately be to please others and would detract from what we had envisioned for our wedding day. It was important to us to have a wedding reflective of our wants and an intimate ceremony with just the two of us was exactly that. Plus we got to spend the day doing what we love to do: hiking, exploring, and enjoying the outdoors. None of which would have been possible in any other arrangement.
What made you decide on Dead Horse Point?
This is an easy one… it was Eden! We love the outdoors and knew we wanted to get married in a national/state park, and the idea of a desert wedding sounded really fun. So a few months before our wedding, I started scouring Instagram and Pinterest for ideas and I came across Eden’s photos from a bridal session at Dead Horse Point (Alexis and Zach), and I fell in LOVE. We had never seen such an insanely beautiful, unique and remote landscape. After learning more about DHP and Eden’s work experience there, it was a complete no brainer for us. Although we had never been there, we knew that if it looked even a small fraction of how it appeared in photos that we would be happy. Needless to say, it did not disappoint, and we plan on going back as often as we can.
What was your favorite part of the day?
Adriana- Such a tough question for me, because I honestly loved every moment and hiccup (minus my double stick tape not working, haha). Every time I re-tell the story of our day, I get emotional because I’m just so so happy and couldn’t have dreamt of anything better suited for Greg and me. If I had to choose though, it would be exchanging our vows in the rain. I can’t sufficiently describe how I felt in the moment, but suffice it to say, I was overwhelmed with love and joy, and the pictures convey that perfectly.
So many other favorites:
– Seeing the look on Greg’s face when he first saw me
– When Eden and Krissi asked if we still wanted to do our first dance (haven’t stopped crying about that)
– The random couple who gave us $20… that we later spent on fries and frostys
– Climbing up rocks in keds
– Eden’s text the day before when she said the weather looked “fun”
Greg– The moment where I found myself standing alone facing a marvelous red rock cliff, knowing that my soon to be wife was “quickly” making her way out to share our first look. The anticipation in that moment brought on by thinking about everything we’ve shared up to that point, and what could be in store was wonderful. The moment she interrupted those thoughts by tapping on my shoulder to turn around took my breath away. Needless to say, I think the photos capture the purest feeling of joy I’ve ever felt.
What advice would you give future couples wanting to elope?
Rain happens, bring an umbrella, and a tough-as-nails photographer, haha. But in all seriousness, stop thinking and just do it! We’re obviously biased, but eloping was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made as a couple. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful, unconventional, romantic wedding day. It’s understandable to have concerns about how your family and friends may react, but if you’re comfortable doing so, explain your reasoning for eloping. Ultimately, anyone you would ask to join you at your wedding would want you to be happy, so in time we believe they’ll come to respect your decision and love you all the same.
